First trip to the workshop this year.

by TKTURNS January 14, 2018 No Comments

Now that the chill has gone a little from the workshop, I ventured back in for a little tidy up and ended up just turning.

Starting with rounding off and end sealing a piece of ornamental cherry, which will be beautiful. I just hope I can do it justice.  I have heard a rumour that there may be more of this left in the pile, so I have requested more.

I then found a lump of apple left from the Christmas honey dipper failures which turned into a mini goblet.  There was a bit of a wobble just below the bead collar, but it held on…

Today was a day of firsts: I got myself a sphere jig for Christmas so tried to make a ball from a cherry stave.  Mixed results, I have to rewatch the Youtube instructions, but the basis is there.

Mrs Turns has been asking for a pomander for a while and as I had no clue how to go about making a lidded a box and hanging it from its lid, I had to get a little creative and after hollowing and piercing the sphere, I drilled a central hole through it and the lid and turned a little bead from some left over tulip-wood, another new thing to try.

The end result you can see above. The reaction from the recipient was favourable, so I must have done something right…
